Coronavirus pandemic is a clear example of the Domino effect. You know the theory of when a small change occurs then it leads to an even larger change.

The yearly Pop Culture extravaganza, Comic-Con, has been officially canceled due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic despite earlier reporting that the event was still going on as planned. The Summer event was planned to go on from July 23–26 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Due to the spread of the COVID-19, Many shutdowns and cancellations have occurred. This is due to the fact that many states, including California, where San Diego Comic Con was held, have issued orders to shelter in place and only allow Essential Businesses to operate.

In the world of Culture, Coronavirus has derailed many events from Burning Man, which has now entered the virtual world, to the NBA season. Many of Hollywood film and television productions have been halted as well.

The sudden cancellation come as shock to many as this is the first time in the Conventions 50-year streak that the it won’t occur. Also Comic-Con’s sister Convention, WonderCon Anaheim, which was to have been held from April 10–12 at the Anaheim Convention Center, has been rescheduled to March 26–28, 2021, says Deadline.

The Comic-Con Museum provided a statement about the cancellation of the beloved convention, according to the NY Post.

“Comic-Con International is officially cancelling the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con, marking the first time in 50 years that the show will not go on. It is the right thing to do. Comic-Con wants to do all we can to fight the spread of this virus and support workers who are on the front line, fighting this battle.

“There will be better days ahead, and we believe the Comic-Con Museum will play an important role in San Diego’s recovery after COVID-19. We are a destination city and tourism is vital to our economy. The development and opening of the Comic-Con Museum will act as a catalyst to reopen one of the world’s best urban parks and a destination city known world-wide.

“Some of the proposed Phase I renovations will shift, but this will not scale back the visitor experience. Our 2021 grand opening is still on track, and you will soon see building plans that illustrate this transformation. To ensure we stay connected in this new reality, the Museum will introduce new and creative digital ways to bring the magic of Comic-Con to you all year-round.”

“We will redouble our efforts to regain momentum on opening this museum by 2021. And we can’t wait to work with you to realize this vision. Better days are ahead.”

Now that Comic Con did provide an explanation as to why they’re shutting down and that line of communication between venue and fans are always appreciated. But the question still remains as to how Comic Con fans are dealing the unexpected or not so unexpected news.

While many fans are saddened by the news, some expected attendees understand the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic and are understanding by the news. Fans from all over social Media expressed an “understanding tone.” Fans like twitter user, Cynthia Gonzales are on board the “understanding” train.
